How do you pray?

So far this week, we have explored the meaning of Jesus' special prayer that he gave us as a family - 'The Our Father'.

We will continue to look at how Jesus taught us to pray, according to the Gospel of Matthew 6.
We will use the video below to help us.

We will continue to look at ways in which we can pray individually and collectively, and how this makes us feel.
Some of us will be writing prayers to share in Class Collective worship.  Remember the three main themes for prayer:
* Thanksgiving
* Petition
* Sorry
Think about...
Can you remember where Jesus was when he taught his followers to pray?
Where do you like to pray?  What do you pray for?  What prayers do you use?  How do we pray as a school community?

Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost! We pray for Year 6 during their preparation for Confirmation

This Sunday sees the end of 50 days of Easter, and welcomes the Feast of Pentecost - when the Holy Spirit entered the hearts of Jesus' disciples.

We look forward to seeing you at mass to celebrate this Holy Day.

When we return to school we will explore this most joyous moment.  For now, you may want to look at the video below to help you understand the event.

The Holy Spirit fills us with the Fruits and Gifts we need to spread the Good News, as disciples of Jesus.  The video link below may help you to remember these - think about how you will use the Fruits of the Holy Spirit throughout your Journey.

We continue to pray for Year 6, as they prepare to receive the Holy Spirit, through the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The Angelus - May, The Month of Mary

Next week in RE, Year 3 will be learning about and reciting The Angelus, in readiness for our May Procession/Mary Day on Friday (we will be wearing something blue and raising money for our charity Cafod, who are working to support those who have suffered in the recent earthquakes in Nepal.)

The Angelus reminds us of the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary with great news!
When we pray The Angelus with humility and love, we are sharing Mary's faith in God's goodness. We are blessed that we can ask both God and Our Blessed Mother for their help on our journey towards Eternal Life!

We pray to Mary in a special way...what prayer do we say?  This prayer also forms part of The Angelus.

Bird Box Web Cam! - Spring is here!

Image result for spring has sprungSpring has sprung and with it, more of God's creatures are growing around us!

Year 3 (and Year 2) are privileged to have live web cam feeds into bird boxes dotted around our school.  We have many eggs laid from our BLUE TITS and already have a few hatched this week!
This is such an exciting time as we watch them grow...

Science - Plants

Some children at Holy Souls School have also been planting in our school garden - I wonder what we have growing in there?  Have you helped to grow anything at home?

Year 3 are already conducting our own investigations into plants - what have we found out so far?

First Holy Communion Meeting - Thank you!

Image result for thank you

Thank you all for attending our meeting in church, this afternoon.  I hope we managed to answer any queries you may have had; if there is anything you may need to ask over the next few weeks, please do not hesitate to come and speak to a member of Year 3 staff at the end of the school day.

One thing we need to confirm is that professional photos in the school hall will not be available before the 9.30 masses -  I apologise for any confusion I may have caused!

As we stated. the children are preparing well and will be wonderful on the day - please can we encourage you to practise mass responses, prayers and any readings with your children.

We are all very excited as it is now so close!

God Bless,

Miss Wood

Year 3 First Holy Communion - Alton Castle Retreat Day, 2015!

Today, Year 3 attended their Retreat Day at Alton Castle, in preparation for their First Holy Communion.

We were lucky that the weather was kind (even though it was slightly chilly!), which meant we managed to take part in the many team building tasks outside.

We had a fabulous day and would like to thank Father Craig for joining us, and the group leaders of Alton Castle for making our day so memorable.

We feel blessed to have been prepared for this most Holy Sacrament in such an exciting and spiritual way, and feel ready to Share The Lord's Supper within the next few weeks.

If you would like to find out more about Alton Castle, why not log-on to the link below... you can find out more about what the centre has to offer and take a sneaky peak as to what to expect when you attend your Residential Trip in Year 6!...
